Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a medium saucepan, combine the condensed milk and butter. (2 minutes)

02

Step

Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until the mixture thickens and reduces by about half. This should take approximately 18-20 minutes. The mixture is ready when it pulls away from the sides of the pan.

03

Step

Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup of sweetened flaked coconut. (1 minute)

04

Step

Transfer the mixture to a buttered bowl or plate. (1 minute)

05

Step

Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to handle.

06

Step

Once chilled, lightly grease your hands with butter. Roll tablespoon-sized portions of the mixture into smooth balls. (15 minutes)

07

Step

Roll each ball in the sweetened flaked coconut until fully coated. (10 minutes)

08

Step

Gently insert a whole clove into the top of each beijinho as a decorative touch. (5 minutes)

09

Step

Arrange the beijinhos on a serving plate and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

For a richer flavor, use coconut milk instead of cow's milk in the original recipe.
If the mixture is too soft to roll, chill for a longer period.
Feel free to experiment with different toppings, such as sprinkles or chopped nuts.
Beijinhos are best enjoyed within 3-4 days.

I tried using unsweetened coconut and adding a bit of vanilla extract. It gave them a nice sophisticated twist.

My batch was a little too soft. I think I needed to cook it for a bit longer. But the flavor was amazing!
