Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine flour and salt. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture. On low speed, combine until the mixture resembles coarse sand, ensuring no butter pieces exceed pea size. Avoid over-blending. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a small bowl, whisk together cold water, vinegar, and ice. Gradually add the ice water mixture to the flour and butter, one tablespoon at a time, mixing between additions until the dough forms a smooth, non-sticky ball. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to three days. (10 minutes + 30 minutes chilling)

03

Step

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). In a small skillet over low heat, melt butter slowly until lightly browned and nutty. Remove from heat and stir in scraped vanilla seeds. (10 minutes)

04

Step

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 12x12-inch square. Place the crust on a rimmed baking sheet lined with Reynolds Wrap® Aluminum Foil. (10 minutes)

05

Step

Arrange apple slices on the crust in rows, fanning slightly. Leave a 1-inch border. Brush with vanilla-infused browned butter. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Fold edges over apples, pressing down. Brush crust with egg wash. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. (20 minutes + 30 minutes chilling)

06

Step

Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 15 minutes. Rotate, reduce heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), and bake for another 30 minutes, or until crust is golden brown. Slice and serve. (45 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the apples.
Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor profile.
Be careful not to burn the butter when browning it. Watch it closely and remove from heat as soon as it turns a light brown color.
